Skardu is the main city of Baltistan along the shore across the Indus. Skardu is the largest district of the Northwest Territories. Baltistan is home to some of the highest peaks in the world, the Karakoram range, Skardu is very popular with mountaineering expeditions. It is also popular with hikers high altitude, treks to Baltoro Glacier, K2 Base Camp Concordia. Skardu by road is approximately 5 hours drive from Gilgit and 10 hours drive from Besham. A daily flight to and from Islamabad is also in operation. The flight is always subject to weather conditions.

Shigar: Shigar is a beautiful village a few miles north of Skardu its picturesque village with beautiful terraced fields growing all sorts of cultures. Shigar was once a small kingdom and the fort was once much Shigar residential local ruler. Recently, the Aga Khan expressed interest in the fort has been renovated and is open for tourists. Fort Shigar was made to be a strong residential again.
